Winter Storm

My heart goes out to everyone who was stuck in their cars, schools, or basically anywhere they could find shelter for the night. Women going into labor while stuck on a jam packed high way, children stuck on their school buses, it was crazy!
I think I speak for everyone when I say, I did not see that coming! I took Ethan to school that morning b/c it was a completely normal morning.
I got a call around 10:30 (when it started to flurry) and was told they would let out at 12:00.
I left my house at 11:40 with Elly to go get him and my car did a 180 on the road by my house and it was slipping the whole way there. I was freaking out, but trying to stay calm.
On the way back from getting Ethan, what normally would take 10 min, took me an hour and 15 min.!

My poor husband was stuck on the road for over 7 hours before he got home. His car actually slid off the road and got stuck and he walked 3 miles to the nearest gas station. I was going to take Ethan and Elly to my friend's house who lives down the street so that I could go pick him up, but her sweet husband said to stay home with the kids and he would go get him! So many acts of kindness were shown all around that day! So, Matt and my friend's husband safely made it home around 10:00pm.

We tried to make the most out of the day and got to play outside a lot with our friends down the street:

Wednesday morning view from my front porch: The road was a solid layer of ice!

Around 1:00pm, Matt's friend with 4-wheel drive picked him up to take him to his car. This is what they saw! At least 20 other cars that people had abandoned! They were able to get Matt's car unstuck and back home safely:)

First time making a snowman together:)

Thank you to everyone who helped us and to everyone who helped those stranded on the roads on Tuesday night. It's times like these where the best in people shine through!
